The Shelbourne Hotel holds a special place in Dubliners' hearts

Some buildings are time machines, nostalgic hubs that transport us to previous, happy occasions, be they wedding receptions, significant birthdays, romantic trysts or debs gatherings. The Shelbourne Hotel is one such tradition-steeped place.

Whenever I’m there, time loops backwards and I see myself as a girl again, enjoying afternoon tea with my mother, or clinking glasses with a friend who has just got engaged, or marking the publication of my first book.
